Opinion: I Love LED

I think LED lighting is wonderful. That might seem counter-intuitive coming from someone whose interests are so firmly tied to the halogen industry, but it isn’t. Long gone are the days of LED vs Halogen bulbs. They have become, like pencils and pens, very different tools with very different applications.

Take my two cars for example: one is brand new with all the latest tech; the other, a modern classic. Without mentioning brands, my daily driver—the new one—features a cutting-edge “Matrix LED” lighting system that does some seriously impressive stuff. This technology will become the new-car standard in the near future.

Though I like my new car very much, I am passionate about my other one. This was my high school dream car. It is fast, loud, and classically beautiful—and to slap an LED system on it would be sacrilege.

I am endlessly fascinated by breakthroughs in electric cars, smart devices, and AI technology. That said, there will always be a special place in my heart for a nice, hardcover book, a handcrafted mechanical watch, and the classic glow of incandescent Christmas lights—and I know I’m not the only one.

Innovation is wonderful, exciting, and necessary for progress, but there will always be a place for traditional craftsmanship. My passion for halogen isn’t dimmed at all by LED tech, it’s reframed by it; LEDs provide the contrast necessary to see the timeless character that halogen light offers, making it easier to choose the tool for the job at hand.
